Meetup 8 - Panel Discussion with Ciara Garvan, Ed Burke & Rebecca Dyer

On this meetup: Leaders discuss real success beyond funding, enjoying roles, quick MVP launches, handling feedback, unconscious bias, and career shifts.

“Getting funding is not an achievement, getting customers and getting revenue is”

“You don't need to know where you are going to be in 5 years, but you need to understand the parts of the role you enjoy and see where could that lead you in the future”

For this meetup, we had 3 guests line up for a panel that talked about their own experiences in leadership and also took questions from the audience.

Some of the topics covered in this meetup:

  • Why you should get your minimum viable product developed quickly and launched

  • As a leader, how you can get feedback from your peers or people reporting into you

  • The topic of unconscious bias - what it is and how it can affect the workplace culture

  • How to deal with negative criticism

  • How working for a startup can completely change your career due to having to take on multiple roles you may have never worked in before

  • How to deal with the move from working in a big established well-known company to starting your own

  • How having a support structure of friends, co-workers or mentors can keep you motivated

  • The importance of self belief when starting your own projects
