Applying for new roles? Use ChatGPT to refine your CV.
Yes, ChatGPT is the buzz word i’m sure you see all over your linkedin feed, but some of the more simple uses for ChatGPT can be very useful when you are applying for a new role, especially if some of your past experience is for a different title or role to the one you are applying for.
Here is an example of a couple of lines from my own CV from 2017. I was working as a support developer in Mastercard, and much of my experience up to that point reflected this.
- Dealing with and fixing the support tickets transferred to us from our lower level support teams or delegating tickets to other developers
- Joining Development sprints to keep abreast of any issues that may affect customers or to find out when fixes will be implemented
If ChatGPT was around when I was looking for PM roles outside of Mastercard, I could have done the following prompt:
“I am product manager and most of my professional experience is as a support engineer. I want to re-write my CV so that my previous experience is more suitable for a product management role. I will provide you with the content, please rewrite it in the same format with the above in mind.”
And here are the results:
- Expertly handled and resolved advanced technical issues, enhancing product reliability. Demonstrated leadership in workflow management by effectively delegating complex support tickets to developers, ensuring timely solutions and improved customer satisfaction
- Actively involved in development sprints, gaining insights into potential customer issues and upcoming fixes. This involvement facilitated better communication with stakeholders and contributed to strategic planning for product updates, ensuring alignment with customer needs and expectations.
If these are too long, simply tell ChatGPT to “Make them shorter”, and choose your favourite parts.
